Cab and cone mounts carry the hardest life in the estate: they sit under plant cabs and heavy assemblies, loaded in every direction at once as the machine works, and their conical geometry is the reason, taking compression, shear and rock in one shape.
The pick runs on size and hardness. The CB cab mounts come in 105 and 120 millimetre diameters, and the CDM cone mounts in 66, 110 and 128 millimetre bodies on M16, M20 and M30 studs, with each size graded across Shore hardnesses, 45, 55 and 65 on the CDM forms, 45 and 60 on the cab mounts. Shore hardness does here what load ratings do elsewhere: the same mount in a harder compound carries more and rides firmer, so the machine's weight and duty pick the grade.
A failed cab mount announces itself as a cab that rocks, nods or sits low at one corner, and mounts are replaced in sets across an axle or frame line, because a new mount paired with worn ones carries more than its share.
