The Jubilee clip is the original: invented and patented in 1921 by Commander Lumley Robinson, a Royal Navy veteran, whose company L Robinson & Co still manufactures in Gillingham, Kent as a family business a century on. The name became so dominant that worm-drive clips everywhere are called Jubilee clips, but the trademark belongs to the Gillingham original, whose clips have sealed everything from wartime aircraft to Concorde, and the genuine article remains the benchmark for band quality and worm-drive engagement.
