Workbench Back Panels, Socket Rails and Hooks: Which Add-On Fits?

by Admin

Workbench Back Panels, Socket Rails and Hooks: Which Add-On Fits?

Sockets loose in the drawer, hooks dropping off the wall, no room left on the bench? The right add-on usually sorts it, as long as it is made for your bench, cabinet or panel.

PartsForMachines lists 62 Sealey workshop equipment spares, from bench back panels, shelves and socket rails to nailer consumables, mask filters and heater flue parts.

Socket Rail or Socket Holder: Which Keeps Sockets Sorted?

A rail suits a mixed or growing collection, while a holder suits one matched set. The AK271 socket rail tray takes sockets of any size, 20 to a rail, on four 430mm steel rails with clips for 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2in drive. That’s 80 sockets in all, with a carry handle to take them where you’re working.

A holder is laid out for one drive and one size range: the SH1414 takes 14 standard and 14 deep 1/4in sockets, 4mm to 15mm. Either way, put sockets on in size order and label each rail with its drive and size range.

Can I Add a Tool Panel and Shelves Above My Workbench?

Yes, if a back panel assembly is made for your bench. The APIBP1800 back panel assembly, for example, suits the API1800 industrial workbench. It sits on the bench top, measures 1735mm wide by 825mm high and has two louvred and two perforated panels, for a mix of bin and hook storage. Bins and hooks are bought separately.

Match the assembly to your bench model: the 2055mm APIBP2100 is the one for the API2100. Shelves made for these back panels, such as the 2040mm shelf for the APIBP2100, can be set at various heights. Keep everyday tools on the panel and small or precious items in the drawers.

Why Do Pegboard Hooks Fall Out, and Which Hooks Fit My Panel?

Often because a plain hook simply sits in the holes, so it comes away with the tool. Hooks must also fit the board: pegboard comes in more than one hole size, so measure the holes and spacing first. The APMS3BP panel, for example, has 12.7 x 12.7mm holes spaced 45mm apart.

Buy hooks made for your panel system. The TTS17 single prong hooks (6 x 75mm, pack of five) are listed for PerfoTool and PerfoWall panels. These include the bench back panels above and the TTS05 powder-coated steel pair. Steel panels are much tougher than hardboard. If hooks still lift out, choose ones with locking barbs or retention clips to help hold them.

Matching Dividers or Panels: How Do I Know They Will Fit?

Start from the model number of your chest, cabinet or panel, not its look. Add-ons for modular storage are usually made for named models, and some only work with a companion part.

The API-DIV07 drawer divider, for example, measures 155 x 65mm and fits the medium drawer of eleven listed industrial tool chests. Check your chest is on that list.

The APMS3BP modular back panel joins wall and base cabinets in its series, but it must be used with one of two upright connectors, the APMS30UCS or APMS30UCD.

What Should I Check Before I Order?

  • the model number of your bench, cabinet, panel or tool, from its label or manual
  • that the add-on names that exact model, not just the same range
  • companion parts: connectors, bins or hooks can be sold separately
  • for sockets: the drive size, the size range and the drawer’s inside height
  • for wall panels: the hole size and spacing, and the load rating of any shelf or hook

Frequently Asked Questions

Will deep sockets on a rail fit in my drawer?

Measure before you buy. Clip your longest deep socket on and compare its height with the drawer’s inside height. Holders such as the SH1414 take deep sockets as well as standard ones, so check the deep ones clear too.

How do I keep metric and imperial sockets apart?

Give each standard its own rail or holder and label it. A holder with a metric size range keeps one set together: the SH3815 takes 15 standard and 15 deep 3/8in drive sockets, 6mm to 20mm.

How much weight will a back panel shelf hold?

It depends on the shelf, so check its rating and stay within it. Sealey rates the API11 shelf, made for the APIBP1500 back panel, at 30kg, and the wider 2040mm shelf for the APIBP2100 has the same 30kg rating.

Where do hacksaws and long-handled tools go on a tool wall?

Use a holder made for the job. The TTS39 holder takes up to three hacksaws on PerfoTool or PerfoWall panels. For long-handled tools or sports kit on an APH01 wall rail, the PVC-wrapped APH06 hook carries up to 20kg.

Can I fit a back panel or shelf myself?

Usually, yes. The APIBP1800 mounts simply onto its bench top, and the APMS70 shelf needs only some simple assembly. A full-width panel is big and heavy, so get a second pair of hands to lift it.

Can I put wheels on a storage unit that came without them?

Yes, if a castor kit is made for it. The STVWK kit names three storage units by model number and has four 125mm castors, two of them locking. Check your unit’s model is in the kit’s title before ordering.

Can I join two mobile bin storage units?

Yes, if a joining kit is made for them. The TPSJK kit lets you fix several mobile bin units together and names three models it suits, so check yours is one of them before you order.

Can I make one section of my van storage lockable?

Yes, on the APMSV01 or APMSV02 modular van frames. The APMSV03 steel door has a cylinder lock with two keys, and its sprung fitting lets it go in any section of the frame.

Are there spring clips that fit my tool panel?

Yes, if your panel is one they are made for. The TTS10 13mm spring clips and the 19mm TTS12 come in packs of five and suit the same panels as the TTS17 hooks. Check your panel’s model on the product page.
