Van Floor Mats Slipping? Pick a Set That Fits and Stays Put
The driver’s mat keeps creeping towards the pedals, or the floor under it stays damp. The usual fix is a rubber mat cut for that footwell, locked to the floor anchors where the van has them, and lifted out to dry now and then.
PartsForMachines lists 73 vehicle-specific floor mats from Town & Country: 60 for vans, plus sets for double-cab pickups and cars.
Why Does My Van Mat Creep Under the Pedals, and How Do I Stop It?
A mat creeps because nothing is holding it down: the driver’s heels and every climb in and out push it forward a little at a time, until it bunches against the pedals. Stopping that is the job of the floor anchors.
Choose a mat cut for your footwell and lock it onto the anchors, as the Y0060 anti-slip rubber mat set for the Caddy does. Where there are none, pick a set with an anti-slip backing. Fit one mat per footwell, never one on top of another. Before driving, check it lies flat and clear of the pedals, because a loose mat can interfere with them.
Which Mat Fits My Van: Year, Gearbox or Fixing Type?
All three matter, starting with the exact model and build year. For the Partner, Berlingo and Combo from 2018–19 on, and the Proace City, mats come in click-fix and twist-fix versions. The mat’s fixing has to match the anchors in your van’s floor. Not sure which you have? Send our team a photo of the anchor.
The gearbox can change the footwell too. On the Ford Transit Custom from 2024, the automatic cab is shaped differently from the manual, so the Y0294 automatic front mat set and the Y0293 manual set are not interchangeable. Both suit carpet-floored vans only.
Rubber or Carpet Mats: Which Suits a Work Van?
Rubber, for most work vans. A rubber set sheds the grit, mud and water that come in on site boots and stands up to scuffing at the pedal box, so less of it reaches the carpet and floor beneath. It also cleans properly: wipe it down, or take a hose and a brush to it.
Every set in this range has a raised outer lip that keeps spills and mud on the mat, not the floor. Sets such as the Y0283 two-piece rubber mat for the Transit Mk8 add an anti-slip backing too. Rubber still needs fixing down, though: any loose mat can creep.
Can Water Trapped Under a Floor Mat Rust the Van Floor?
It can. Water that gets under a mat, or soaks the carpet beneath it, sits against the floor pan, where corrosion starts. A damp carpet can turn mouldy too. A waterproof rubber mat with a lip keeps most of the wet on top, but lift it out now and then and let the floor dry.
If the floor keeps getting wet, find the leak first: a damaged door seal or a blocked air-conditioning drain, for example. Two-piece sets such as the Y0547_A4 mat for the Citroen Dispatch lift out one side at a time.
What Should I Check Before I Order?
- the exact model, badge and build year, including any facelift
- the gearbox, manual or automatic, and whether there is a crew row behind the front seats
- the floor fixing: click, twist or no anchors at all
- what lies under the mat: carpet or a factory rubber floor
- how many pieces the set has, and whether they interlock

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I buy just the driver’s mat?
Not usually. Most van sets here come in two or three pieces, cut to the cab floor as a set. In a two-piece set each side still lifts out on its own, so clearing out the driver’s side is quick.
What is the difference between a two-piece and a three-piece set?
Mainly how the floor is split. In a three-piece set the pieces interlock, so they hold their line instead of drifting apart and opening gritty gaps. Some vans, such as the Ducato from 2006, are offered in both layouts.
Will a mat for one van fit its twin with a different badge?
Often. The Citroen Dispatch, Peugeot Expert and Toyota Proace of 2016–2021 share a cab, as does the 2019–2021 Vauxhall Vivaro. But the 2014–2019 Vivaro shares its platform with the Renault Trafic instead, so match the year as well as the badge.
My van has a rubber floor: will rubber mats slide on it?
They can if they rely on weight alone, so choose a set that locks to the floor anchors or has an anti-slip backing. Some sets suit carpet-floored vans only, such as the 2024-on Transit Custom sets, so check before ordering.
The floor hooks keep letting go: is it the mat or the anchor?
Check both. If the mat’s fixing hole is split or stretched, the mat can no longer lock on and needs replacing. If the anchor turns or lifts out of the floor, have it repaired first: a mat is only as secure as its anchor.
Can cable ties, hook-and-loop pads or underlay stop a mat moving?
Treat them as a stopgap at best. Never fit a second mat under or over it, as stacked mats can interfere with the pedals. A mat cut for the footwell and locked to the anchors is the lasting fix.
Crew cab or rear bench: will the front mats cover it?
No, front sets cover the cab footwells only. The 2024-on Transit Custom crew row has its own Y0295 rear mat set, which leaves seat adjustment free. A swivel base or converted layout can change what fits, so send our team a photo first.
Do van mats need tools or drilling to fit?
Many sets need no tools at all, and fixed sets click or twist onto the van’s existing floor anchors. Lay each piece in its footwell, line up the fixings with the anchors, press or turn them home, then check each piece is secure.
How should I clean rubber van mats?
Lift them out and knock off loose grit, then wipe them down, or hose and brush them if they are caked. Let the mats and the floor dry, then refit each one securely before driving.
