Rubber Anti-Vibration Mounts: Which Type, Which Way to Load?

Rubber Anti-Vibration Mounts: Which Type, Which Way to Load?

Your compressor or pump is shaking the floor, or an old rubber mount has split and you can’t tell what replaces it. Mount type, load direction and thread matter as much as the rubber.

PartsForMachines lists 281 standard rubber mounts from AV Industrial Products, from flanged and turret mounts to sandwich mounts, ring elements and rubber sheet.

Flanged, Turret, Sandwich or Cone: Which Rubber Mount Do I Need?

Choose by how the machine fixes down and moves. A flanged mount bolts to the floor or a baseplate through holes in its flange, and the machine sits on its threaded top; flanged mounts such as the FM50-60 suit pumps, fans and compressors. Turret mounts such as the TMS08035-45 deflect a lot under load and can isolate well even at low frequencies.

A sandwich mount is a block of rubber between two metal end plates, and most mounts in the range are rubber bonded to metal. On mobile plant, cabs and engines, a cone mount such as the CM890-60 multi-directional mount is stiffer sideways than vertically, so it controls movement in all three axes.

Shear or Compression: Which Way Should a Rubber Mount Take the Load?

Check the rating for the direction the load acts, because a rubber mount can carry less in shear than in compression. The V3630-55-55 W and V mount takes 30 kg in compression but 19 kg in shear, and the softer V3630-40-40 drops from 17 kg to 7.5 kg.

Most mounts here may be loaded in shear, compression or both, so check both figures if a mount sits at an angle. None of them has a tension rating, so ask us before hanging a load from one. Small mounts carry little: the TM229-40-40 turret mount is rated 5 kg.

Compressor Shaking the Garage or House Wall: How Do I Mount It on Rubber?

Bolt each mount’s base to the floor through its fixing holes, then bolt the compressor’s feet onto the threaded tops, so the machine meets the floor only through rubber. The FM100-60 flanged mount, for example, has two fixing holes, an M10 thread and a 100 kg maximum load. Check each foot’s share of the weight against that rating.

Then look at the air line. Fit a flexible hose or connector between the machine and any fixed pipework, so the pipe run does not carry vibration past the mounts.

Matching an Old Mount: Is the Number a Load, a Shore Grade or a Thread?

Don’t read the code as a load rating. In the flanged range, the FM25-60 carries 40 kg, and while the FM100-60 is rated 100 kg, the FM100-75 takes 147 kg. On graded mounts like these, the last number is the Shore hardness, so -75 means 75 Shore.

Some turret codes also give the thread and load: the TMM10130-45-45 turret mount is M10, 130 kg and 45 Shore. Not every family follows that pattern, so measure the old mount: thread (M4 to M24 across this range), height, base size and fixing centres, then match the load and grade.

What Should I Check Before I Order?

  • how the old mount was fixed: through a flange, on a stud or between plates, or under a cab or engine
  • which way the load acts, straight down, sideways or both, and the mount’s rating in that direction
  • the weight each mount position will carry
  • the old mount’s thread, height, base size and fixing centres, measured rather than read off the code
  • oil, fuel or heat nearby, which may call for a special rubber compound

Browse the standard rubber mounts range, or contact the PartsForMachines team by WhatsApp, telephone or email. Send the machine’s weight, a photo of the old mount and its measurements, and we will help you match it.

Product options, delivery options and returns terms are shown on each product page. A 30-day return policy applies to eligible items.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do anti-vibration mounts work on machines other than compressors?

Yes. The same kinds of mount suit pumps, fans, vibratory screens and generator sets, as well as instruments and electronics. Choose by the weight on each mount, the way the machine fixes down and the direction of the load.

Will a rubber mat do instead of separate mounts?

It can, if the mat is rated for the load. The M100100 rubber anti-vibration mat is 100 x 100 x 8 mm and rated to 200 kg per mat. Thin sheet, such as the 1.5 mm FFCR151210 roll, suits light, low-load damping layers.

What is a ring element used for?

It mounts instruments, electronics and light equipment. It is a round rubber ring bonded to metal, with a centre boss and bore: the 10025PRB13 is 100 mm across and 25 mm high, with a 40 mm boss and a 13 mm bore.

Is a Jubo coupling an anti-vibration mount?

No: it is a flexible drive coupling. It transmits drive while absorbing torsional shock and reducing vibration. The JC220.101 is rated at 157 Nm normal torque and up to 4500 rpm, so choose a coupling by torque and speed.

Which mount suits a small electronics box or control panel?

A small, soft mount sized to the light load. The LF0912 low-frequency mount is 12.5 mm across with an M4 thread. Softer grades give more deflection and better isolation when the load is light.

Two fixing holes or four: does it matter?

Match the old pattern so you need not re-drill. Smaller flanged mounts such as the FM100-60 have two holes, while heavier ones, like the 793 kg FM400-75, use four. The FM600-75 has a 100 x 85 mm four-hole pattern.

Can I fit cone mounts under a cab or engine on a digger or tractor?

Yes, that is what they are made for. Cone cab mounts are stiffer sideways than vertically, which restrains cab and engine movement, and their failsafe design suits mobile plant. The CB1814-60, for example, is rated to 713 kg.

Can rubber mounts be used near diesel, oil or heat?

Ask before you order. Many mounts in this range can be made in oil-resistant or high-temperature rubber on request, and flanged mounts such as the FM100-60 also come in synthetic rubber that resists oil and fuel.

Can I get stainless metalwork or a size that is not listed?

Often, yes. Many mounts, the V3630-55-55 among them, can be ordered with stainless steel metalwork or in extra and custom sizes. Send our team the measurements, the load and the working conditions.
