Golf Trolley, Mower or Motorbike Battery? Lithium or Lead-Acid

Golf Trolley, Mower or Motorbike Battery? Lithium or Lead-Acid

Your golf trolley battery gives out before the 18th, the new bike battery arrives with an acid pack, or the ride-on mower battery won’t hold a charge. Each needs the right type in a case and terminal layout that match the old one.

The Golf Cart, Lawn Mower & Motorcycle Batteries range at PartsForMachines lists 364 batteries from Exide, Numax, Rolls, Lucas, Varta, Bosch and others. Most are motorcycle and powersports types, plus golf trolley, ride-on mower and deep-cycle batteries.

Trolley Battery Dying Before the 18th: Bigger Battery or Lithium?

Rule out charging habits first; if the battery is healthy but still runs short, step up the hole rating, and consider lithium to save weight. Recharge a lead-acid battery after every round, as one regularly left part-charged sulphates and loses capacity.

For more holes, the 27-hole LSLC26-12G holds 26Ah against 22Ah for the 18-hole LSLC22-12G golf trolley battery. The LLG22 lithium battery has the same 22Ah at 2.8kg, against 6.2kg for the lead-acid one.

Acid Pack or Factory Sealed: Which Motorcycle Battery Do I Need?

Match the code on the old battery or in the handbook, then choose how it arrives. A conventional battery usually comes with a separate acid pack; once filled, its electrolyte needs topping up with distilled water when low. An AGM battery with an acid pack, such as the ETX14-BS AGM motorcycle battery, is filled once and then needs no topping up.

A factory-sealed AGM battery such as the LTZ10S arrives filled and charged, ready to fit. Acid-pack batteries make good shelf spares, as they need no recharging until filled. AGM batteries are valve-regulated (VRLA), so a battery labelled VRLA may be the AGM your handbook wants: check it also says AGM.

Is a Lithium Motorcycle Battery Worth It, and Will My Bike Charge It?

Often, if you want less weight and strong starts from a small case, and your bike’s charging system is healthy. In a near-identical case, the BLTX9-BS lithium motorcycle battery is rated at 180 cold cranking amps against 120 for the ETX9-BS AGM battery, and weighs 0.8kg against 3.1kg. It holds 3Ah rather than 8Ah, though, so a light left on can flatten it sooner.

A charging system working within spec will keep it charged, but have the charging voltage checked before fitting, as too high a voltage can damage it. Off the bike, use a charger with a lithium mode.

Ride-On Mower Battery Won’t Hold a Charge: Which Replacement Fits?

If it still can’t turn the engine over after a full charge, it usually needs replacing. A lead-acid battery left flat over winter can sulphate and stop taking a full charge. Match the size code (such as U1, 895 or 896), the dimensions, the positive terminal’s side and the cranking amps.

The U1R-250 is an 895 type, and the U1L-250 is the same battery with its terminals reversed, cross-referenced to 896. For more capacity and cranking power, the LP895 lawn mower battery is another 895 type.

What Should I Check Before I Buy?

  • the code on the old battery (for example YTX14-BS, 895 or “18 hole”) and its size including terminals
  • which side the positive terminal sits on: an L in the code, as on the ETX14L-BS, can mean reversed terminals
  • the terminal or plug type on the old battery and its lead
  • the voltage (6V, 8V or 12V), capacity (Ah, or hole rating) and cold cranking amps (CCA) against the original
  • how it arrives and charges: acid pack (first charge before fitting), factory sealed, or lithium (charger with a lithium mode)

Browse the Golf Cart, Lawn Mower & Motorcycle Batteries range, or contact the PartsForMachines team by WhatsApp, telephone or email with the code and size of your old battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I fit a lithium battery to my old golf trolley?

Usually, if it is 12V, fits the battery bay and connects to your trolley’s lead. Charge it only with a charger made for lithium. The LLG22 lithium golf trolley battery, for example, is 12V 22Ah and measures 168 × 128 × 102mm.

Will a new battery connect to my trolley’s lead?

Only if the terminals and plug match, so check both before you order. The LSLC22-12G and LSLC26-12G come with a Torberry lead and F6 terminals, while the 36-hole LSLC34-12G has F8 terminals. If the plug differs, reuse your old lead if its connectors fit.

My new bike battery went flat within weeks: is it the battery or the bike?

Check how it was prepared first: an acid-pack battery should get a full charge after filling, before it goes in the bike. If it had one, have the charging voltage checked with the engine running, and look for drains such as an alarm.

Will a battery with its terminals the other way round fit?

Don’t count on it, as the leads may not reach. The ETX14L-BS has the same size and rating as the ETX14-BS, but its terminals are the other way round, so match the code letter for letter, including any L.

Is a lithium bike battery a fire risk?

The risk is low with lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), used in batteries such as the ELTX20H and LLM7L, as it is one of the more heat-stable lithium chemistries. Never use a damaged or swollen battery, and charge it only on a suitable charger.

Do lithium bike batteries struggle in the cold?

They can feel sluggish on the first start in very cold weather. Switching the lights on for a short while before starting helps the battery warm itself. Never charge a lithium battery below freezing (0°C).

Can I fit a bigger battery to my ride-on mower?

Yes, if it fits the tray and clamp and the leads still reach. The LP895 gives 32Ah and 300 cold cranking amps, against 24Ah and 250 for the U1R-250, but its case is 8mm longer, so measure first.

Will any deep-cycle battery do for a golf buggy?

Not any: match the voltage, size and type of the old batteries. Flooded deep-cycle batteries such as the 6V 6FSGC and 8V 8FSGC suit golf buggies; they need topping up with distilled water after charging, while sealed AGM types do not.
